The 64-year-old TV judge posted a video on Instagram showing herself diving into an ice bath in a yellow swimsuit.

The stylish swimsuit accentuated her slim figure and featured a round neckline and a low-cut back.

In the video, the star can be seen taking several deep breaths as she gathers the courage to slowly lower herself into the pool.

The ballroom dancer, who went makeup-free for the cold water therapy session, had a shocked expression on her face as she hit the water and lowered her arms into the water.

The star revealed that when she first started cold water therapy she could only sit in temperatures of six degrees, while her body has now adapted to the freezing temperature of just three degrees.

During the clip she said: ‘So this morning is the first day of Strictly. I’ve done my exercises and I’m about to get into my plunge pool.’

Shirley thought back to a pair of pants that didn’t fit her before and said, “Remember when those pants were too tight?”

She added: ‘I’m going to post them today and the results, which I promised myself when I did the show, would be much better.’

The star then said, “Well, take a dip. Freeze. Breathe and then the arms go in. Oh, that’s a lot of breathing,” as she bravely plunged into the plunge pool.

Once in the pool, Shirley told of her progress: ‘I started at six degrees, then I went to four degrees and today I’m at three degrees. So I’m getting colder and colder and colder.’

She jokingly added, “Strength in the mind,” before taking a deep breath and mustering the courage to completely submerge herself in the freezing ice bath.

On Saturday, all fifteen couples will perform for the first time in an attempt to convince the jury, after the couples were already announced last week.

Ahead of the live show on Saturday, presenter Tess Daly also gave fans a sneak peek of the dances they can expect.

She messaged her husband Vernon Kay on his BBC Radio 2 show saying: ‘Hi Vern, the excitement is palpable in the studio today.

‘It’s really exciting because all 15 celebrities will be dancing live for the first time tomorrow night.

‘Costumes are being finalized, fake tans are being booked. We have sambas, two sambas, and the samba is challenging as the first dance, so that’s going to be really interesting.

‘We have cha-chas, and when I say you can’t miss Paul Merson’s American Smooth, I promise I’m not kidding.

“We can’t wait for everyone to see all the hard work these brilliant celebrities have been putting into the training room, it’s going to be an amazing show! See you tomorrow at 7pm!”

Strictly’s 20th anniversary series has been somewhat tainted after the BBC programme became embroiled in scandal amid a year of controversy.

Giovanni, 33, has been suspended while the BBC investigates allegations made by Amanda and two other former celebrities.

With the report into his misconduct due to be released any day now, Amanda is reportedly deeply disappointed with BBC bosses who fear they are ‘protecting’ the dancer during the bullying investigation.

High-level meetings have been held between BBC bosses to work out how to present their findings, with fears of legal action from Amanda or Giovanni if either of them is disappointed with the outcome.
