Martin County continues to search for healthcare solutions

WILLIAMSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — It’s been over a year since Martin General Hospital closed its doors. Now the facility can now reopen as a rural emergency hospital, according to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Ascendient, a healthcare consulting firm, has been working with Martin County to find a solution. Now that the facility can reopen as a rural emergency hospital, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC HHS) must confirm that the building meets the proper requirements to operate as such. They need to identify whether the facility needs updates as well.

According to Martin County and Ascendient, the future of the facility looks positive. Conversations with NC HHS indicate that updates to Martin General Hospital should be fairly limited. They are still working to finalize requirements.
