Town of Edenton hires new police chief

EDENTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Town of Edenton announced a new police chief on Friday.

David LaFon is a native of Aulander, North Carolina and has worked as a first responder for most of his life. Lafon is currently serving as the Captain of the Edenton Police Department.

“I am excited to be selected as the next Chief of the Edenton Police Department,” he says. “Growing up just down the road in Aulander, I know what small-town life is like and I look forward to helping Edenton thrive as a wonderful place to live, work, relax and retire.” 

He served as an instructor for several local community colleges, an officer for the Windsor Police Department and Bertie County’s Emergency Services Director.

“We are very fortunate to have been able to recruit a police chief as qualified and as dedicated to his community as David LaFon,” said Mayor Hackney High. LaFon is a 28-year-old veteran of the North Carolina Forest Service and now, retiring as the Chief of Law Enforcement.

LaFon’s passion for helping other didn’t stop there. He is currently a volunteer with the Edenton Fire Department and has served as a volunteer for many local organizations and clubs.

“I am excited to work hand in hand with Chief LaFon as we continue to build local and regional partnerships while expanding the scope of our department’s efforts in both community outreach and law enforcement,” said Town Manager Corey Gooden.

Dabid Lafon begins his new role as the Chief of Police on October 1.
