Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a speech on Friday specifically focused on on abortion rights and she will do so in Georgia, where news reports have reported women dying as a result of the state’s six-week ban.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are busy ensuring that the American Secret Service has enough money and resources to keep the country’s presidential candidates safe amid repeated threats of violence. The efforts follow an assassination attempt in July on former President Donald Trump at a meeting in Pennsylvania and after a second apparent attempt last weekend at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

And voters are divided over whether Harris or Trump would do a better job of the economy, a new AP-NORC poll finds.

Here’s the latest news:

Washington, DC has a new tourist attraction that will undoubtedly get a makeover once the next president takes office.

“The Peoples’s House: A Washington Experience” is scheduled for open on mondaywhich occupies three floors of an office building a block from the White House.

The education center features a life-size replica of the Oval Office, furnished exactly as President Joe Biden’s would be, including his desk, armchairs in front of the fireplace and the weathered family Bible on a side table.

But it won’t stay that way for long.

The plan is to modernize the replica of the Oval next year, after either Democrat Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump is elected and takes office in November and the design is finalized.

The replica will always reflect the sitting president’s Oval Office and will be updated regularly, said Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association.

The nonprofit raised funds to open the education center.

Admission is free, but timed tickets are required.

Vice President Kamala Harris has become more outspoken about her gun ownership in recent weeks, but on Thursday she spoke for the first time about what she would do with the weapon she owns.

At a campaign event hosted by talk show host Oprah Winfrey, Harris spoke about her efforts to curb violence and pass a new ban on assault rifles. Then she referenced gun ownership, surprising Winfrey.

“If someone breaks into my house, they’re going to get shot,” Harris added. She continued, “I probably shouldn’t have said that. My staff will deal with that later.”

A livestream featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and talk show host Oprah Winfrey, billed as a “Unite for America” rally, began Thursday night with more than 230,000 viewers on YouTube alone, even before Harris joined, as the Democrat looks to use digital-first events to reach voters.

The event was hosted by Winfrey from the suburbs of Michigan, one of the key battlegrounds in this election. Celebrities such as Brian Cranston, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock and Meryl Streep, as well as the stories of ordinary voters, were used to promote Harris’ message.

“I want to take my daughters to the White House to meet this black female president,” said comedian Chris Rock.

Donald Trump appeared before Jewish leaders in Washington DC on Thursday to discuss anti-Semitism.

But as the former president often does, he took a major detour at the beginning of his speech, naming his Republican allies in the crowd, discussing the Green New Deal “scam” and pontificating at length about his poll numbers.

Trump was about an hour late with his speech, which was scheduled to begin around 6 p.m.

“Kamala Harris has done absolutely nothing. She has not lifted a finger to protect you, or protect your children, or even protect you with words… I am here to tell you today that this ugly form of anti-Semitic hatred for all of us — bigotry and hatred — will be reversed… starting January 23rd at noon,” he said.

“With your vote, I will be your protector and defender and the best friend Jewish Americans have ever had in the White House.”
