Cape Town Spurs give Kaizer Chiefs Asanele Velebayi hope!

It is no secret that Kaizer Chiefs have a keen interest on Cape Town Spurs young winger Asanele Velebayi!

Chiefs have seven signings through the door and are reportedly keen to add at least two more before deadline hits.

As it stands, Chiefs have roped in the services of Bongani Sam from arch rivals Orlando Pirates. They continued to sure up their defence, with the signings of Rushwin Dortley and Fiacre Ntwari. The defender joining from Cape Town Spurs while the goalkeeper signed from TS Galaxy. It didn’t stop there as Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel, Bradley Cross and Njabulo Blom

Chiefs interested in Velebayi

It is believed that Chiefs are still in the market to further strengthen their squad. Two more signings, a winger and striker have been touted. Having already missed out on Elias Mokwana and Khanyisa Mayo, they are now looking at Oswin Appollis. It was thought that the Polokwane City star is heading to Algeria, but that move doesn’t seem to have materialised. That seems to have given Amakhosi a chance to steal in.

While they continue to work on Appollis, it is believed Chiefs are not giving up onVelebayi either. They have had a long drawn out public saga with Spurs in an attempt to get his signature. Amakhosi were quoted R12 million for the 21-yea-old, which they bulked at. They were then accused of tapping up his parents and not professional avenues to get him. Sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr since cleared that up as a misunderstanding.

It was then hinted that no players would be leaving Spurs after a certain date. But they have since sold duo Ashley Cupido and Chumani Butsaka to Stellenbosch FC. Now speaking to KickOff.com  club CEO Alexi Efstathiou insists a move to Chiefs or anywhere else could still happen for Velebayi!

“Yes, of course [the deal could happen]. If there’s any team that comes and puts the right offer, we will seriously look at it. There is serious interest, I can’t specify [which teams]. Nothing has changed. That is what happened with Cupido (Ashley), that’s what happened with Rushwin (Dortley), that’s what happened with Chumani. So, I don’t see why it should be different for Asanele (Velebayi).” Said the Efstathiou.

Spurs drop asking price?

The website goes on to say that Spurs have dropped their price to around R8 million for Velebayi. Chiefs have previously bulked at an initial R12 million price tag, Amakhosi fans, is the 21-year-old worth that amount? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below.
