Xbox reveals that Bethesda’s new September release is available for free on launch day but there’s a catch

SEPTEMBER has been the most packed month of the year for gaming, but it’s not over just yet.

While we take in the final few days, there are still plenty of big hitters to end off the month.

Not only that but people have already started prepping their wallets for October, which is set to be even bigger.

With all that said, gamers are looking for a bargain, ways to keep up to date with the latest releases without paying that new game price tag.

That’s where Xbox is stepping in, with the chance to play Bethesda’s upcoming story as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC.

Xbox has come under fire recently for the decision to increase the price of Xbox Game Pass and to remove one of its better value tiers.

Game Pass for Console has been replaced with Game Pass Standard, which includes online play, but removes access to day-one releases.

Around 50 games have been removed as part of the swap to the new service, giving poor value to those who love single-player games.

Among the games that were lost in the shuffle is Xbox’s biggest exclusive of 2023, Starfield.

However, if you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, or Xbox Game Pass for PC subscriber, you can still take advantage of the upcoming release.

Starfield: Shattered Space will launch on Monday, September 30, 2024, and is the first of two major expansions for the game.

The story expansion focuses exclusively on the planet of Va’ruun’kai, which means it’s very different from the base game’s focus of interplanetary exploration.

Bethesda has suggested that it will be a very narrative-focused DLC, meaning that there will be lots of story beats to enjoy.

While gameplay is focused around one planet, that doesn’t mean you will be stuck for things to do as Bethesda has promised more than 50 locations to explore.

It’s unclear whether you will need to have completed Starfield in order to dive into the Shattered Space DLC, but the base game is also included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscriptions.

If you want to play the DLC on the day that it is released, then all you have to do is navigate to Starfield’s store page on the Microsoft Store.
