BREAKING: Fraud-accused Eskom contractor Michael Lomas lands in SA

Michael Lomas, the former head of a construction company contracted by power utility Eskom, landed in South Africa after being deported from Britain to face graft allegations.

Lomas is facing 41 corruption charges after he allegedly manipulated numerous contracts worth in excess of R1.5 billion between 2008 and 2018 at Kusile power station.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said Lomas was arrested and granted bail in April 2021 before fleeing to the United Kingdom.

Lomas arrived at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg in a wheelchair accompanied by SAPS Interpol SA officers and is expected to be handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (also known as the Hawks).
