Kwara LG polls: PDP candidate promises free education

As Kwara State prepares for local government elections on Saturday, Comrade Misbauhdeen Esinrogunjo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ilọrin West Local Government Area, has pledged to provide free education for public primary and secondary schools if elected.

Esinrogunjo made this commitment during a radio programme in Ilọrin. In a follow-up conversation with Daily Trust, he explained that the initiative is a personal project aimed at revitalising education in the council.

“This is my personal project. If elected and we can access our allocation without interference, we will implement free education immediately, as the cost at this level is minimal. We will also reward exceptional teachers and provide one free meal daily for council staff, among other welfare measures,” Esinrogunjo said.

In a related development, Hon. Gbenga Makanjuola, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives and ex-deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, has dissolved his political structures to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the upcoming elections.

Makanjuola announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated 30 July, addressed to the ward chairman in Irepodun LGA. His supporters, following his directive, have pledged to back all APC candidates in Saturday’s council elections.

PDP publicity secretary, Olusegun Adewara confirmed the news but downplayed its impact. “We are not concerned by his move. The structure he refers to is insignificant. Our executive members remain intact, apart from him, in his ward in Irepodun,” Adewara stated.
