King’s College students implored to emulate Sanusi Lamido, Bayo Ogunlesi

The King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOBA) has encouraged the school’s students to emulate the track records of alumni such as a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and a foremost lawyer, Bayo Ogunlesi.

The Chairman of the organising committee for the Kings Week 2024, Tonye Cole, said this during the announcement of the school’s 115th anniversary, themed: “Achieving a Secure Nigeria by 2030”.

He said, “Kings College has been blessed with successful old boys. Those who are still alive in their nineties like Alhaji Lateef Okonu. These people have impacted Nigeria at that every level.

“We have those who are serving in the public sector, politics, business and professional services. King’s College has produced the best and does not lack old boys to show the younger generation that hard work actually pays.

“We are very pivotal to whatever happens in Nigeria. We were trained in this school to pay attention to whatever happens in the country on the side of politics, business. So, when it comes to Nigeria today, there is no one that is in doubt that security in every facet is challenged from food, national, and financial security.”

The association’s President, Dr Leke Oshunniyi, highlighted the projects done by the association to improve the welfare of the school, saying that funds from the federal government were not sufficient to meet the needs of the school.

He said, “As we all know the relative amount of funding to government owned secondary schools has diminished over the years to the extent that we have had to come in with full force.”
