A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after an explosion at a bungalow.

Emergency services arrived at Canterbury Road, Charing, at around midday where a woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The bungalow was alight when the services arrived and showed extensive damage.

Fire crew tackled the blaze as the injured woman was taken to King’s College Hospital in London.

Neighbours who heard the explosion told KentOnline: “It was an unimaginable bang – everything shook and you can see where the bungalow was.

“You wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”

The family dog that appeared from the bungalow rubble is said to be taken care by a vet.

Residents and those working in the vicinity of the accident have been evacuated from the area which is now sectioned off with police tape – a road closure is also in place.

The South East Coast Ambulance service (SECAmb) was supposedly called at 11.50am to attend the incident.

A SECAmb spokesperson said: “Crews assessed and treated one female at the scene, before being joined by the Air Ambulance Charity, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, who airlifted the patient to King’s College Hospital in London for further medical treatment.”

The cause of the explosion is yet to be established and four fire engines and fire investigation team remain in the area.
