Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is always a horror movie fan’s best friend.
That’s especially true during the Halloween season, as the San Francisco outpost of this popular theater chain manages to up its already bountiful lineup of horror movie offerings to an even more frightening level.
From “Beetlejuice” to “Basket Case,” Alamo has pulled together a diversely twisted slate of bloody bizarre flicks for October.
The majority of the scares will come, as per usual, from Alamo’s weekly Terror Tuesday series, which draws horror movies from all around the Bay Area pretty much 52 weeks a year. The October lineup is highlighted by 2007’s “Halloween II” — a truly underrated Rob Zombie-directed chapter in the bloated and highly uneven franchise that screens on Oct. 15 — as well as Frank Henenlotter’s disturbing cult classic “Basket Case” on Oct. 8.
The theater is also hosting a number of cool movie parties, including one on Oct. 13 for the zombie comedy “Shaun of the Dead” with inflatable cricket bats being handed out “so you can smack your neighbor every time Shaun smacks a zombie onscreen,” according to the website.
On Oct. 16, fans can join the “Beetlejuice” movie party, which is described as a “ghoulishly interactive screening (that) comes with Miss Argentina sashes, shrimp keychains, Beetlejuice stickers and even sticky eyeballs.”
On Oct. 31 — Halloween night itself — Alamo will host a “Rocky Horror Picture Show” movie party Sounds fun, but it does bring up one important question: When is a ‘Rocky Horror’ screening ever not a party?
