App’s Koopman Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week

App State Field Hockey sophomore Florine Koopman was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Koopman is the third Mountaineer to earn player-of-the-week honors in three weeks.

“Anytime one member of our team is honored, it is an honor for the whole team. Florine would be the first person to give all the credit to her teammates,” head coach Emily Dinsmore said. “We are very proud of the way she played and helped lead our attack this weekend.”

Koopman was awarded for her effort in Sunday’s 7-2 win against Davidson. She was responsible for generating several attacking opportunities through the midfield, leading to 21 total shots for the Mountaineers, and two goals for the Dutchwoman. The Mountaineers never trailed against Davidson, applying offensive pressure on the Wildcat defense for all 60 minutes.

Koopman found the back of the cage for the first time this season at the end of the first period, extending the Mountaineer lead to two early in the game. Her second goal would be the last of the game, as she scored off a corner in the third period.

Her performance was key this weekend, playing a vital role in aiding the Mountaineers to their first road win of the season. Sunday’s seven goals are the most scored in a game since an Oct. 15, 2023, matchup at Queens.

Koopman and the Mountaineers continue play on Friday, where they will begin conference play against Ohio. First touch is slated for noon in Athens, Ohio.
