Statesville Man Accused of Defrauding Elderly Relative

39-year-old Joshua David Mayberry of Beulah Road in Statesville has bee arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers on felony counts of identity theft (seven counts), exploitation of the elderly by someone of trust (over $100,000), and obtaining property by false pretenses (exceeding $100,000).

On April 1 of this year, the Sheriff’s Office received a report from a financial institution regarding possible fraud involving an elderly victim. The victim’s credit cards and other financial accounts appeared to have been compromised and used fraudulently by an unauthorized person.

Detectives discovered that a family member of the elderly victim, identified as Joshua David Mayberry, had fraudulently used the victim’s bank accounts and financial cards to make unauthorized purchases. Detectives also learned that Mayberry had fraudulently accessed the victim’s finances since April of 2018. Multiple search warrants were executed to obtain documentation and evidence from financial services and financial institutions.

As a result of the investigation, Mayberry was arrested and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $75,000.00 secured bond. He’ll appear in District Court on October 7.
