The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ license plate agency (LPA) in Lincolnton will close at 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 after the current operator’s contract ends. The current agency, at 2683 E. Main St., at the Carolina Shopping Center in Lincolnton, has been operated by Matthew Craig since December 2020. A new agency will open under a selected contractor on a later date.
In the meantime, three nearby license plate agencies offer service Monday through Friday except for state holidays: Newton/Conover, 803 Conover Blvd. W. (U.S. Hwy. 70/321 Bus.), 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Hickory, 901 U.S. Hwy. 321 N.W., Suite 100, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Gastonia, 246 N. New Hope Rd., Suite 239 (Eastridge Mall), 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
LPAs offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations. Currently, 124 license plate agencies operate in North Carolina.
