Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Opens Conference Play With Draw

For the second straight game, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Team left things very late. On Saturday, The Bears used a late Kara Gavaghan goal in the 80th minute to tie Lincoln Memorial 1-1. The Bears ended their three-game, season opening road trip with a 1-0-2 record after taking down UNC Pemborke 4-1 and drawing with #12 Lee 1-1.

For the second straight game, the Bears went into halftime scoreless as neither team could find the back of the net. The Railsplitters found the scoreboard first in the 77th minute with a goal from Victoria Filsner, her first of the year.

Kara Gavaghan headed in a free kick from Evan O’Leary in the 81st minute to equalize. After the Gavaghan’s goal neither team registered a shot on goal.

The Bears out-shot Lincoln Memorial 11-6 in the first half and 17-12 for the game. Riley Miller made three saves in goal. After 14 corner kicks in the first two games, The Bears had 16 corners in this contest.

This was the first goal Lincoln Memorial scored against the Bears since the Spring season of 2021. LR moved their unbeaten streak against Lincoln Memorial to five. This was the first tie in the 26 games these teams have played.

Lenoir-Rhyne is 1-0-2, 0-0-1 SAC. Bears will have their home opener on Tuesday when Florida Tech comes to Hickory for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
