UPDATED world rankings ahead of Argentina vs Springboks

The Springboks and Argentina will play for the 37th time in their nearly 31-year history on Saturday, 21 September.

Kick-off in the Rugby Championship match in Santiago is at 23:00 (SA time).

Heading into the match, the Springboks are top of the World Rugby rankings with 93.58 points while Argentina are in seventh with 82.49 points.

That could all change of course should Argentina pick up what would be an upset victory next weekend.

The two nations met for the first time in 1993.

The 36 matches to date have been split evenly at 17 apiece having been played in Argentina and in South Africa.

Two matches – both won by the Springboks – have been contested on neutral ground: 2007 Rugby World Cup semi-final (37-13) and the 2015 Rugby World Cup bronze medal match (24-13).

In the 17 matches played on Argentinian soil, the Springboks have won 14, lost two and drawn one.

The two sides have never meet before at the venue for next weekend’s match, Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades.
