The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Tshwane says it will visit Babel restaurant in Menlyn, accused of exploiting employees and not operating in line with South African labour laws.

As per the video, employees are allegedly being forced to buy their own uniforms and equipment.

In a statement, EFF chairperson in Tshwane Obakeng Ramabodu said it is unfair that these costs are being shifted to workers who are already working hard to make ends meet.

Ramabodu also criticised the management’s alleged act of deducting from the tips that employees receive which constitute to their monthly salaries.

“This gross neglect of workers’ rights and benefits is a serious violation of labour laws and undermines the social security system designed to protect vulnerable workers.

“The EFF will be conducting a visit to Babel restaurant to address these serious violations of workers’ rights and to ensure that all employees are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Ramabodu said.

RED BERETS SHUT DOWN CLICKS STORES NATIONWIDE

In September 2020, an advertisement for TRESemme hair products – which defined black hair as “frizzy and dull” and white hair as “fine and normal” caused an uproar across the country. As a result, EFF members protested outside Clicks stores nationwide.

Two stores were petrol bombed while others were vandalised. Eventually, EFF leadership and Clicks management met and reached an agreement which included removing TRESemme SA products in every outlet.
