20 People Have Been Killed And More Than 450 Wounded In A Second Wave Of Explosions, Walkie Talkie Sets Used By Hezbollah Members Explodes

20 people have been killed and more than 450 wounded in a second wave of explosions, this time in walkie-talkie sets in Lebanon. More than 450 people have been wounded.

According to media reports, Walkie-talkies which were used by Hezbollah members exploded in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. These areas are believed to be strongholds of Hezbollah.

20 Dead, Over 450 Injured in Second Series of Explosions in Lebanon

Some of the blasts happened during the funeral of 12 people who were killed in the pager explosions a day before. Hezbollah has already pinned the blame on Israel and said that it will give a befitting reply to its enemies.

According to a report by Reuters, these walkie-talkie sets were purchased by Hezbollah five months ago, around the same time when the pagers were purchased.

According to Axios news website the Israeli secret service had placed the explosives in thousands of walkie-talkies before they were delivered to the militant group. The walkie talkie sets were purchased as a part of the militant group’s war time emergency communication setup.

More than 2800 people were wounded in the pager explosions across Lebanon yesterday. Hospital sources said that most of the injured had lost one eye or their hands.

A Doctor at one hospital in Beirut Dr Elias Warrak said,

“Probably this is the worst day of my life as a physician. I believe the number of casualties and the type of damage that has been done is humongous. Unfortunately, we were not able to save a lot of eyes, and unfortunately the damage is not limited to the eyes – some of them have damage in the brain in addition to any facial damage.”

Hezbollah which is an Iran backed militant group said that it had attacked Israeli artillery positions with rockets in response to the pager blasts yesterday.

Israel on Wednesday has already stated that an escalation by Hezbollah has moved the conflict zone to the North. Reports indicate that Israel is amassing troops and strategic assets to the North of the country bordering Lebanon. The U.S. has already warned both the parties against any form of escalation.

Both Hezbollah and Hamas are Iran backed proxies and have been banned by the United States and the European Union. Hamas rules the Gaza strip while the Yaseer Arafat Fatah group rules in the West Bank. Both Hamas and Hezbollah do not accept the existence of Israel.
